The SilenceDoctor Who Crack Theory

Partially inspired by this post.

In Day of the Moon, Amy is told that she will “bring the Silence,” but what if we missed the capital “T”?

Yeah, I’m talking The Doctor. The Master. The Rani. Sure, you have the occasional Romanadvoratrelundar, but “The ____” seems to be a somewhat-established naming convention for Time Lords. We’ve been led to believe that River is regenerating girl from the astronaut suit, so tada! Somewhere along the line she got her very own Time Lord name. After all, what was Amy “bringing” during DoTM when she was abducted? Well, even though she was Flesh, we know her real body was pregnant with River.

This makes me think that there’s a difference between the Silence (River?) and the Silents (the blink-you-forget-me monsters). Consider: the catchphrase for series five was “Silence will fall.” This could mean, as was pointed out, something akin to “the Roman Empire will fall.” But why would the Silents say that about themselves? Easy. They wouldn’t. Whoever tried to blow up the TARDIS (and I’m disinclined to believe it was the Silents because the voice was different) was trying to make The Silence fall. They were trying to blow up the universe before River could be conceived. 26 06 2010.

But why would River change her name? My thought right now is that the Silence is the opposite of the Song. We know that River kills a man, the best she’s ever known. Perhaps, after that point, grief/loneliness/despair compel her to take up a new name. After all, “When you’re alone, Silence is all you’ll be.”
